This past month, the museum commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Our Spotlight Talks—short discussions in our galleries—in July focused on one of Disney exhibits for New York: the Illinois Pavilion... also known as 'Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln', it featured a lifelike figure of America’s sixteenth president!

After two and a half years of planning, preparing and packing, the 16,367-artifact collection of the Walt Disney Family Foundation, made its move into its permanent home on December 10, 2008. The road there had been paved with miles and miles of bubble wrap and large pallet boxes that could create a mansion like fort.

On Friday evening, in front of a sold-out audience in the Museum’s theater, Executive Director Richard Benefield welcomed everyone to the program. He singled out retired Imagineer and Disney Legend Marty Sklar as the guiding force behind the weekend celebration ahead.

We are at the end of our first year of operation as a Museum, but it has been more than ten years in gestation, beginning with our collaboration with writers Richard and Katherine Greene, and producers Cathy Labrador and Jean Pierre Isbouts of Pantheon Productions on a CDRom that created our "virtual Museum"
New Public Programs COMING UP at The Walt Disney Family Museum!

COMING UP! Behind the Scenes on "Treasure Island" with Harrison Ellenshaw, which will take place in our Theater this Saturday, October 9 at 3PM. In the late 1940s, Walt Disney approached Peter Ellenshaw to work on the studio's first live-action feature, Treasure Island. Thus began a professional collaboration and friendship, which lasted over 30 years and 34 films. Learn from Peter's son, Harrison, how his father recreated scenes of England with matte paintings, and also what it was like to work with Walt!

From the beginning of our museum project, I was always more concerned with story than design. That was the purpose of the thing - to tell the story of my father's life. Every life comes to an end, and it is always a time of grief and loss for family and friends. Gallery 10a deals with that in a very straightforward manner.
